ICE- In Case of Emergency Card

This idea came about after being the first person on a scene of a motorcycle accident.  The rider was someone that I had just met that morning prior to the ride and I had just learned his name and where he was from, the only other person that knew this rider was leading the group and was some distance ahead of us at the time. I was following this group of riders in a vehicle and observed this rider when he left the road. Upon getting to the rider myself and my son were able to remove the bike from the individual and get him in a somewhat of safer position until others arrived. Once others arrived the only information that I was able to give was a name and where he was from. His friend that was leading the group returned to us once he learned of the accident when he stopped a few miles ahead. His friend was able to provide the name and address and phone number of the rider’s wife to the EMT’s. We were unable to provide any other important information other then the age of the rider at that time.

Had this rider had and In Case of Emergency card in a wallet or on his bike we would have been able to provide other important information to the first responders and EMT’s. This information would have helped identify his medical condition, medications or known allegories that the rider would have had in addition to giving the information of who to contact or contacts that were important to this rider.

After thinking of this and working in the field on occasion alone it made me think what would happen if I had passed out or became incapacitated who would be able to give the first responder the necessary information for my self and what information would they need to access my condition thus the ICE card was created.

This card is designed to be able to be used in many instances and by many different people, to give enough information to allow

Emergency Responders to help with the triage of a person and  provide medical assistance faster with minimal information.
